Welcome to Wiki with Me!
This wiki has been created to share ideas and resources for integrating the use of wikis, blogs, and social networking sites into your classroom.
Wikis are key tools in a Web 2.0 environment because they allow a web space to constantly evolve through collaboration independent of distance and time. Here, you can learn how wikis are constructed and maintained and you will get the opportunity to explore how
teachers are using this technology as an educational tool. Check back regularly to find new
resources and ideas!
Why Wiki?
Kids today are light-years ahead of us when it comes to integrating technologies into their daily lives. My 11-year-old daughter is a master at collaborating online; she routinely uses videoconferencing applications, search engines, media streaming, interactive games, wikis, and blogs. She does most of these things outside of school; many teachers are still wary of the power of Web 2.0 tools. While I agree that the Internet may contain pitfalls for the unaware, I believe that we should be teaching our students and children how to navigate these. Children are learning from the Internet, whether you want them to or not. What happens next is up to us. One of the most interesting video clips that I have ever watched was sent to me by a student; he found this on YouTube and knew that I would be interested. Learn more
